The Lemur Conservation Foundation in Myakka City is a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of lemurs through captive breeding, scientific research, and education. The foundation houses free-ranging lemur populations in natural Florida forest settings that closely resemble the lemurs’ native Madagascar habitat.
The facility maintains one of the most important lemur breeding populations in North America, focusing on ring-tailed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs, mongoose lemurs, and blue-eyed black lemurs — all species threatened by deforestation in Madagascar.
The Lemur Conservation Foundation is an AZA Related Facility accredited through March 2027 and collaborates with researchers worldwide on lemur biology, behavior, and conservation genetics.
