Educational Information

Elephants of Asia spans 3.5 acres and provides a naturalistic home for Asian elephants, the slightly smaller and more endangered cousin of the African elephant. The habitat features a large pool, sandy substrates, and browse that encourage natural bathing and foraging behaviors year-round.

Asian elephant populations have declined by at least 50% over the last three generations due to habitat loss, human-elephant conflict, and poaching. The LA Zoo funds conservation work in Thailand and Myanmar.
