Penguin Island

Penguin Island is home to a colony of Magellanic penguins in a 3,000-square-foot island habitat surrounded by a deep-water moat. Visitors can observe these charismatic birds swimming, diving, and nesting in a habitat modeled on their native Patagonian coast.

Magellanic penguins are listed as vulnerable due to overfishing, oil pollution, and climate change altering ocean currents. San Francisco Zoo supports Magellanic penguin research in Argentina.
