Trails of Africa

Trails of Africa is Birmingham Zoo's flagship exhibit, featuring African elephants, southern white rhinos, lions, and a variety of savanna species across a multi-acre African landscape. The elephant habitat provides large outdoor yards with pools, mud wallows, and sand pits that support the animals' physical and psychological well-being.

African elephants are endangered, with populations declining across the continent due to poaching and habitat fragmentation. Birmingham Zoo participates in the AZA Elephant Species Survival Plan and funds anti-poaching programs in East Africa.
