Educational Information

Texas Wetlands celebrates the biodiversity of the Gulf Coast and East Texas freshwater ecosystems. Alligator snapping turtles, American alligators, roseate spoonbills, and native waterfowl inhabit recreated bayou, marsh, and coastal prairie habitats.

Texas wetlands provide critical flood protection, water filtration, and habitat for migratory birds. Houston Zoo works with state agencies and landowners to protect and restore Gulf Coast wetlands.
