Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium is a major aquarium on the Mississippi riverfront in downtown New Orleans, part of the Audubon Nature Institute. The facility combines a world-class aquarium featuring Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean marine life with the nation’s largest free-standing museum dedicated to insects.
The aquarium’s Great Maya Reef is one of the few exhibits in the country to replicate a Mesoamerican barrier reef, while the Gulf of Mexico Oil Rig exhibit showcases the artificial reef ecosystems that form around offshore platforms. The Mississippi River Gallery traces freshwater life from the headwaters to the delta.
Audubon Aquarium holds AZA accreditation and serves as a center for Gulf Coast marine conservation, research, and education.
