Penguin Gallery

The Penguin Gallery houses a thriving colony of African penguins in a climate-controlled habitat that replicates the rocky coastlines of southern Africa. Sea otters share an adjacent exhibit, with underwater viewing windows that let visitors watch these playful marine mammals dive, roll, and use rocks to crack open shellfish.

African penguins are classified as Endangered, with wild populations having declined by over 95% since the early 1900s. Oil spills, overfishing, and habitat loss at breeding colonies are the primary threats. Audubon Aquarium participates in the AZA Species Survival Plan and supports field conservation in South Africa.
