Educational Information
Flamingo Cove is a walk-through habitat where visitors stroll among a flock of greater flamingos wading in shallow pools surrounded by tropical landscaping. The immersive experience brings guests within feet of these iconic pink birds as they feed, preen, and perform their famous group courtship displays.
Greater flamingos get their striking pink color from carotenoid pigments in the crustaceans and algae they filter from the water. Without these pigments in their diet, flamingos would be white. The exhibit educates visitors about flamingo biology, wetland ecosystems, and the importance of clean water for wildlife.
