Gator Swamp

Gator Swamp is a dedicated alligator exhibit where visitors can observe American alligators in a naturalistic swamp setting with fallen logs, murky water, and overhanging cypress branches. Educational presentations cover alligator biology, the species' remarkable recovery from near-extinction, and the cultural importance of alligators in Cajun Country.

American alligators were once hunted to near extinction for their hides but have made a remarkable comeback thanks to protection under the Endangered Species Act and sustainable farming programs. Louisiana now has over 2 million wild alligators — one of the greatest wildlife recovery stories in American conservation history.
