Educational Information
Laura P. Nichols Penguin Pointe is home to a colony of African penguins in a climate-controlled habitat with a deep diving pool, rocky nesting areas, and underwater viewing windows. The exhibit educates visitors about the dramatic decline of African penguins and the conservation efforts working to save them.
African penguins are endangered, with populations declining by over 95% since the early 1900s due to overfishing of their prey, oil spills, and habitat disturbance. Little Rock Zoo participates in the AZA Species Survival Plan and raises awareness about marine conservation through this engaging exhibit.
