Educational Information

Penguins' Rock is home to a colony of African penguins in a climate-controlled habitat with a deep diving pool and rocky nesting areas. Underwater viewing windows allow visitors to watch the penguins' remarkable swimming agility as they dart and glide through the water at speeds up to 15 mph.

African penguins are endangered, with wild populations declining by over 95% in the past century. Overfishing of their prey species, oil spills, and disturbance of nesting colonies are the primary threats. Tennessee Aquarium supports penguin conservation through breeding programs and public education.
