Educational Information
Tiger Forest features Malayan tigers in a dense, tropical habitat with pools, fallen logs, and elevated platforms that encourage natural hunting and territorial behaviors. The exhibit highlights the critical conservation status of Malayan tigers, one of the rarest tiger subspecies on Earth.
Malayan tigers are critically endangered with an estimated 80-120 remaining in the wild on the Malay Peninsula. Poaching for traditional medicine and habitat fragmentation from palm oil plantations and logging are driving their rapid decline. Zoo Knoxville participates in the AZA Species Survival Plan for Malayan tigers.
