Educational Information
Tortoise Yard is home to Aldabra giant tortoises — one of the largest tortoise species in the world, capable of living well over 100 years. Visitors can observe these gentle giants grazing on grasses and vegetation in an open yard that allows close observation of their slow, deliberate movements.
Aldabra giant tortoises are found only on the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, one of the world's most remote island groups. Unlike their Galápagos cousins, Aldabra tortoises were never heavily exploited, and their population of approximately 100,000 is relatively stable — a rare conservation success story among giant reptiles.
