Africa Region

The Africa Region spans hundreds of acres and features African elephants, gorillas, lions, chimpanzees, and other iconic species in vast naturalistic habitats. The region's immersive design allows visitors to walk through landscapes that feel authentically African, with minimal barriers between guests and animals.

North Carolina Zoo's Africa exhibits are among the most spacious in any American zoo, giving animals room to express natural behaviors including foraging, socializing, and territory patrol. The gorilla habitat alone covers several acres of forest, providing the troop with a complex, enriching environment that supports their physical and psychological well-being.
