Farm

The Farm features heritage livestock breeds historically raised in the Southern Appalachian region, including goats, sheep, pigs, and poultry. The exhibit connects visitors to the agricultural traditions of mountain communities and the importance of preserving heritage breeds adapted to the Appalachian environment.

Appalachian farmers developed livestock breeds uniquely adapted to the steep terrain, variable climate, and forage conditions of the mountains. Many of these heritage breeds are now rare, and their preservation maintains agricultural genetic diversity that may prove valuable as farming adapts to climate change.
