Educational Information

Ndoki Forest is a state-of-the-art gorilla habitat named after the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park in the Republic of Congo. The exhibit features western lowland gorillas in a multi-level environment with climbing structures, foraging areas, and both indoor and outdoor spaces that support the complex social dynamics of gorilla family groups.

Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, with populations declining due to commercial hunting for bushmeat, Ebola virus outbreaks, and habitat loss from logging and mining. Riverbanks Zoo participates in the AZA Gorilla Species Survival Plan and supports field conservation in Central Africa.
