African Overlook

African Overlook features one of the largest giraffe herds in the Southeast, with an elevated viewing platform and feeding station where visitors can hand-feed these gentle giants at eye level. The exhibit provides panoramic views of the giraffe yard and adjacent African species habitats.

Giraffes have experienced a "silent extinction," with populations declining by approximately 40% over three decades while public awareness remained low. The IUCN now classifies giraffes as Vulnerable, and conservation programs at AZA-accredited zoos like Greenville are working to reverse this decline through breeding programs and field conservation support.
