Louisiana Swamp

The Louisiana Swamp is one of the most celebrated zoo exhibits in America — a recreation of the bayous, marshes, and cypress swamps of southern Louisiana, home to American alligators, snapping turtles, nutria, raccoons, and native Louisiana wildlife. A boardwalk winds through the atmospheric exhibit, complete with a Cajun houseboat and authentic swamp sounds.

Louisiana's coastal wetlands are disappearing at a rate of approximately one football field every 100 minutes — the fastest land loss in American history. The Louisiana Swamp exhibit educates millions of visitors about this ecological crisis and the importance of wetland conservation for wildlife, fisheries, and hurricane protection.
