Predator Building

The Predator Building houses big cats, bears, and other carnivores in indoor and outdoor habitats designed to accommodate their hunting instincts and territorial behaviors. Red pandas — the zoo's conservation flagship species — live in a specially designed temperate forest habitat with bamboo groves and elevated platforms.

Red pandas are classified as Endangered, with fewer than 10,000 remaining in the wild in the mountain forests of Nepal, Myanmar, and China. Birmingham Zoo's red panda breeding program is one of the most successful in the AZA network, producing cubs that contribute to the genetic diversity of the managed population.
