Educational Information
The Otter Exhibit features North American river otters in a naturalistic habitat with flowing water, slides, and underwater viewing areas. These playful, charismatic animals are among the most popular residents of the Lowcountry Zoo and serve as ambassadors for healthy waterway conservation.
River otters are excellent indicators of water quality, as they require clean, unpolluted waterways with healthy fish populations to thrive. Their presence in the rivers and creeks surrounding Brookgreen Gardens is evidence of the property's conservation value and the ecological health of the Waccamaw River watershed.
