Educational Information

Combe Chimpanzee Ridge is named in honor of Jane Goodall's legendary research site in Tanzania. The exhibit provides a spacious, enriched environment for a family group of chimpanzees with climbing structures, foraging opportunities, and indoor and outdoor spaces that support complex social behaviors.

Chimpanzees are endangered, with populations declining due to habitat destruction, bushmeat hunting, and disease. As our closest living relatives — sharing approximately 98.6% of our DNA — their conservation is both an ecological and ethical imperative. Chattanooga Zoo participates in the AZA Species Survival Plan for chimpanzees.
