Dolphin Lagoons

The Dolphin Lagoons at DRC are a series of natural saltwater sea pens along the Gulf of Mexico shoreline where dolphins live in family groups with natural tidal flow, sunlight, and ocean water. This open-water environment supports natural behaviors and allows the dolphins to experience seasonal changes.

DRC's research programs in these lagoons have produced groundbreaking studies on dolphin cognition, including language comprehension, self-awareness, and cooperative problem-solving. The facility publishes its findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
