Educational Information
The Rainforest exhibit houses a Sumatran tiger and a Sumatran orangutan in lush tropical habitats that replicate the dense jungle of Indonesia. Free-flight tropical birds, piranhas, and freshwater fish from the Amazon and Southeast Asia complete the immersive jungle atmosphere.
Sumatran rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate due to palm oil plantations and illegal logging. Both Sumatran tigers and orangutans are critically endangered, with fewer than 400 tigers remaining in the wild. The exhibit raises awareness about the devastating impact of deforestation.
