Breeding Facilities

The breeding facilities house pairs and groups of rhinoceros iguanas, blue iguanas, and various tortoise species in climate-controlled enclosures optimized for reproduction. The facility maintains studbook records and collaborates with other institutions to maximize genetic diversity.

The Grand Cayman blue iguana was once reduced to fewer than 15 individuals in the wild. Captive breeding programs like this one have been instrumental in the species' remarkable recovery to over 1,000 wild individuals today.
