African Exhibit

The African Exhibit features giraffes in a spacious outdoor habitat with a popular feeding station where visitors can hand-feed these gentle giants at eye level. The giraffe encounter is Hattiesburg Zoo's most beloved experience, drawing visitors from across Mississippi and neighboring states.

Giraffes have experienced a 'silent extinction' with wild populations declining by approximately 40% over the past three decades. Once considered a single species, giraffes are now recognized as four distinct species, some with fewer than 5,000 individuals remaining. The exhibit raises awareness about this often-overlooked conservation crisis.
