Educational Information
The Marine Mammal Center houses California sea lions used for educational outreach and research. Daily presentations demonstrate the sea lions' natural intelligence and agility while teaching visitors about pinniped biology and the challenges facing marine mammals in the Gulf of Mexico.
IMMS's research programs study the health of Gulf Coast marine mammals, including the long-term effects of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill on dolphin populations. The facility's scientists have published numerous peer-reviewed studies contributing to marine mammal conservation.
