Educational Information
The Sea Turtle Rehabilitation facility treats injured and sick sea turtles — primarily Kemp's ridley sea turtles, the most endangered sea turtle species in the world. Visitors can observe turtles in various stages of recovery in treatment pools while learning about sea turtle biology and the threats these ancient reptiles face.
Kemp's ridley sea turtles nest almost exclusively on a single beach in Tamaulipas, Mexico, making them extraordinarily vulnerable to oil spills, fishing bycatch, and coastal development. IMMS has rehabilitated hundreds of sea turtles, with the majority successfully returned to the Gulf of Mexico.
