Educational Information

Over the Jumps is a restored 1920s track-style carousel and National Historic Landmark — the only surviving example of its kind in the United States. Unlike traditional carousels, the horses ride on an undulating track that simulates jumping, creating a unique experience that connects visitors to early 20th-century amusement history.

The carousel was originally built for the Little Rock Fairgrounds and moved to the zoo in 1963. It was fully restored and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992, preserving an irreplaceable piece of American cultural heritage within the zoo grounds.
