South American Realm

The South American Realm features species from the diverse ecosystems of Central and South America, from tropical rainforests to Andean highlands. Colorful parrots, monkeys, and reptiles give visitors a glimpse into the extraordinary biodiversity of the Neotropics.

South America contains some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, including the Amazon rainforest and the Andes mountain range. However, deforestation, mining, and agricultural expansion are rapidly destroying habitat across the continent. The exhibit raises awareness about the conservation challenges facing Neotropical wildlife.
