Explore the Wild

Explore the Wild is an elevated boardwalk through naturalistic habitats for black bears, ring-tailed lemurs, and critically endangered red wolves. The immersive trail winds through wooded areas and wetlands, providing multiple viewing angles and interpretive stations that highlight each species' ecology and conservation status.

Red wolves are the most endangered canid in the world, with fewer than 20 remaining in the wild in eastern North Carolina. The Museum of Life and Science participates in the Red Wolf Species Survival Plan, maintaining a captive population that serves as an insurance policy against extinction and a source for future reintroduction efforts.
