Educational Information
Grassmere Historic Farm is a working farmstead dating to the early 1800s, preserved within the zoo grounds as a living history exhibit. Visitors explore the original farmhouse, barn, and outbuildings while interacting with heritage breed livestock and learning about Tennessee's agricultural heritage.
The Grassmere property was donated to the Children's Museum of Nashville in the 1960s and became the foundation for Nashville Zoo when it relocated here in 1996. The farm connects visitors to Middle Tennessee's rural past and the relationship between humans, domestic animals, and the land.
