Educational Information

The African Savanna is an expansive outdoor exhibit featuring African elephants, giraffes, zebras, and lions in large, naturalistic environments. The elephant habitat is one of the largest in any zoo in the eastern United States.

African elephants are endangered due to poaching for ivory and habitat loss from human expansion. Pittsburgh Zoo participates in the AZA Elephant Species Survival Plan and supports field conservation efforts in East Africa.
