Educational Information

The Tropical Forest is an indoor rainforest exhibit housing Western lowland gorillas, orangutans, and a variety of tropical primates in a climate-controlled jungle environment. The exhibit's multi-level design allows primates to climb, swing, and forage in spaces that encourage natural behaviors.

Gorillas and orangutans are critically endangered due to habitat destruction, poaching, and disease. Pittsburgh Zoo's International Conservation Center breeds endangered species including Amur tigers and African wild dogs for release into protected habitats.
