Penguin Playhouse

Penguin Playhouse is home to a colony of African penguins in a climate-controlled habitat with rocky nesting areas and a deep pool. Underwater viewing windows let visitors watch penguins transform from waddling land-dwellers into graceful underwater swimmers reaching speeds of 15 mph.

African penguins are endangered, having declined by over 95% in the past century. Overfishing has depleted their prey, oil spills contaminate their habitat, and rising ocean temperatures are shifting fish populations away from traditional breeding colonies.
