Educational Information

Gibbon Island is home to Siamang gibbons, the largest of all gibbons, in a spacious island habitat that allows for their acrobatic brachiating. The gibbons' haunting duet calls can be heard throughout the zoo, as mated pairs reinforce their bond through song each morning.

All gibbon species are threatened or endangered due to deforestation across Southeast Asia. Sacramento Zoo supports gibbon conservation and reforestation in Sumatra and Malaysia.
