Educational Information

The Snow Leopard Encounter provides a rocky, high-altitude habitat for two of the most elusive big cats in the world. Snow leopards are supremely adapted to mountain life, with wide padded paws for walking on snow and a thick spotted coat for camouflage among rocks.

Fewer than 7,000 snow leopards remain in the wild across 12 countries. Sacramento Zoo supports snow leopard research and community-based conservation in Mongolia.
