South Carolina Aquarium

South Carolina Aquarium is located on the historic Charleston Harbor waterfront, showcasing the aquatic habitats of the Southeast Appalachian Watershed from the mountains to the sea. The aquarium is home to thousands of animals and is nationally recognized for its Sea Turtle Care Center, one of the most active sea turtle rehabilitation programs on the East Coast.

The aquarium’s exhibits trace water from the Blue Ridge Mountains through Piedmont rivers and coastal marshes to the open Atlantic, educating visitors about the interconnected ecosystems of the Southeast. The Great Ocean Tank — a 385,000-gallon exhibit — features sharks, sea turtles, and rays in a recreation of the continental shelf off Charleston.

South Carolina Aquarium holds AZA accreditation and is one of Charleston’s most visited cultural institutions.
