Touch Tank

The Touch Tank offers hands-on encounters with horseshoe crabs, sea stars, and coastal invertebrates from South Carolina waters. Trained interpreters guide visitors through gentle touching experiences while teaching about the biology of tidal zone animals and the ecological importance of the intertidal habitat.

Charleston's tidal creeks and salt marshes are among the most productive ecosystems in the world, supporting diverse invertebrate communities that form the base of coastal food webs. The Touch Tank introduces visitors to these often-overlooked but ecologically essential animals.
