Zoo Atlanta is one of the oldest continuously operating zoos in the United States, founded in 1889 in historic Grant Park in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. The 40-acre facility is home to over 1,000 animals representing more than 200 species and is internationally renowned for its great ape program, housing one of the largest populations of Western lowland gorillas in North America.

Zoo Atlanta formerly hosted giant pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang for over two decades as part of a landmark conservation partnership with China. The zoo’s Ford African Rain Forest is among the finest gorilla habitats in any American zoo, with naturalistic family groups viewable in expansive outdoor settings.

Zoo Atlanta holds AZA accreditation and is a leader in primate conservation research, supporting field programs in Central Africa and Southeast Asia.
