African Savanna

The African Savanna features African elephants, giraffes, zebras, southern white rhinos, and lions in expansive habitats that replicate the grasslands and woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. The elephant habitat includes a large pool, sand wallows, and enrichment features designed to support the complex physical and social needs of these intelligent giants.

African elephants are endangered due to poaching for ivory and habitat loss from expanding agriculture. Zoo Atlanta participates in the AZA Elephant Species Survival Plan and supports field conservation in Kenya and Tanzania through long-term research partnerships.
