Educational Information

Florida Wetlands immerses visitors in the unique ecosystem of Florida's freshwater marshes and mangrove forests. American flamingos, roseate spoonbills, and native wading birds inhabit this award-winning naturalistic exhibit.

Flamingos get their distinctive pink coloration from carotenoid pigments in the algae and crustaceans they consume. Florida was once home to large wild flamingo flocks before they were decimated by hunting in the 19th century.
